Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Norns, which operates Skema. They apply when you create an account, accept an invitation to a workspace, or use one. If you use Skema for an organisation, you confirm that you are allowed to agree to these terms for it, and “you” includes that organisation.

What Skema is

Skema is a service for proposing, checking, reviewing and recording changes to a schema, reading documents into it, and releasing versions of it.

• Deterministic checks — parsing, OWL reasoning and SHACL shapes — run the same way every time and report what they checked.
• Model-backed features — reading documents, drafting terms, suggesting edits or relationships, and second opinions — are advisory. They can be wrong, and they never sign or apply anything.
• People decide. Accepting, rejecting, applying and releasing are acts by named accounts, and Skema records who did each one.

Who may use Skema

• You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement. Skema is a professional tool and is not directed at children.
• You must give accurate details when you register and keep them current.
• You must not use Skema if the law that applies to you forbids it.

Your account

• One person, one account. Every signature in Skema is recorded against the account that gave it. Sharing an account makes that record false, so do not share yours or use anyone else’s.
• Keep your password confidential. Two-step sign-in is available, and we recommend it.
• If an owner gave you a temporary password, change it before you sign anything; Skema asks you to.
• You are responsible for what is done with your account. Tell us promptly at contact@skema.world if you think someone else has used it.

Workspaces, roles and signatures

• A workspace has an owner. The owner and admins decide who joins, with which role — viewer, reviewer, admin or owner — and in which domains that role applies.
• A change needs a technical signature and a governance signature from two different people, and a domain can require more technical signatures. A workspace with a single member is the exception: that member’s accept applies the change alone, and the change stays marked as never independently reviewed.
• Signatures are permanent records. When you accept, reject or amend, your account name, the stage, the time and the reason you gave are kept in the workspace’s governance record. A later vote replaces your earlier one but does not erase it.
• Deactivating an account does not remove its name from decisions it signed.

Your content

• You keep ownership of everything you put into Skema: schemas, documents, proposals, comments and decisions.
• You give Norns permission to host, store, back up, process and display your content to you and to the people in your workspace, and to send parts of it to the service providers named in the Privacy Policy when you use a feature that needs them — only to provide Skema to you.
• You must have the right to upload what you upload. Do not upload personal information about other people, or confidential material, unless you are allowed to share it with us and our service providers for this purpose. Documents you ask Skema to read are sent to a model provider.
• Text a model drafts or suggests becomes part of your content when a person accepts it. Check it before you accept it; we do not promise that it is accurate.

Acceptable use

You must not use Skema to:

• break the law, or help anyone else to;
• store or process content you have no right to, including other people’s personal information without a lawful basis;
• try to reach a workspace, account or data that is not yours;
• get around usage limits, rate limits, roles, grants or the signature rules;
• upload malicious code, or interfere with the service, its security, or other customers’ use of it;
• test Skema’s security other than as described on the Security page.

Usage limits

Model-backed features have daily limits, per person and for the whole deployment. When a limit is reached, those features pause until the next day and say so; everything else keeps working.

Availability and backups

We do not offer an uptime commitment. Skema runs on a single server in one Google Cloud region. We take backups and copy them off that server, and we rehearse restoring them, but we do not promise that every change can be recovered after a failure.

Suspension and ending

• You may stop using Skema at any time. Releases can be downloaded from the product; for anything else, or to have your data deleted, write to contact@skema.world.
• We may suspend or end access where these terms are broken, where there is a security risk to Skema or its customers, or where the law requires it. Where the law allows, we will tell you why.

No warranty, and limits on liability

The service is provided as it is, without warranty. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid for the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

Changes to these terms

These terms carry a version and a date. When they change, Skema asks you to read and acknowledge the new version before you continue, and records which version you acknowledged and when.

What acknowledging means

Acknowledging records that you were shown this version of these terms and of the Privacy Policy and agreed to them. It does not take away any right the law gives you, and it does not remove any duty the law places on us.
